FDA Wants To Remove Opioid From The Market

The epidemic of opioid abuse is well known within the US and according to the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) since 1999 the rate of overdose death related to opioid, both prescription drugs and heroin, has quadrupled. [1] For these reasons it is no surprise why many are concerned regarding the epidemic. The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for the first time announced their intention to have opioid painkiller Opana ER from the market due to the public health consequences.  FDA Commissioner Dr. Scott Gottlieb stated, “We are facing an opioid epidemic — a public health crisis — and we must take all necessary steps to reduce the scope of opioid misuse and abuse.” The opioid crisis has affected many people and the subject must not be taken lightly.
