With the drive of Healthy People 2020 it’s no surprise people are become more aware of their health and their food choices. If fruits are good, fruit just must also be healthy, correct? Wrong and according to the American Academy of Pediatrics fruit juice is not healthy for children under age one. In fact, fruit juice given to these children provides not nutritional benefits, can be contributed to rising childhood obesity and oral health concerns. Instead it is recommended fresh fruits be given since they contain dietary fiber and less sugar. Pediatricians also recommend not allowing toddlers to drink juice from sippy cups because it causes the teeth to be exposed to sugars over a longer period which can lead to tooth decay.
