Study published in the journal, BMJ Open, found out that volunteering in age over forty enhances mental health and well-being. However, similar association was not shown in lower age ranges. One of the plausible theories is that students or young adults may perceive volunteering as an obligation, not a willful action.
However, it is yet proven that volunteering is a direct cause of better mental health, could simply turn out to be a correlation or a temporal sequence.
