Obesity Rates and Income Level

With data from the USDA Food Environment Atlas, the two maps below visually depict the percentage of obesity rates in past years. The first map details the age-adjusted obesity rates in the United States in 2013. The second map describes the obesity rates of preschoolers who are of low socioeconomic status from 2009-2011. The first map seems to have the highest rates concentrated in the middle-southern region of the United States, while the distribution of low-income preschool obesity rates in the second map seems to be random. This map was put together by the Health Disparities Research Center of Excellence at Meharry Medical College.
