Increased PTSD and Depression in Survivors of Fukushima Nuclear Disaster

A new study conducted by researchers at  Brighham Young University and Saga University  has come out examining the mental health of survivors of the Great Tohoku Earthquake and Fukushima nuclear incident in 2011. Of the 241 Hirono residents, more than half experience “clinically concerning” symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder and two-thirds of those sampled reported depression.

The Hirono residents involved in the study all lived in temporary housing provided by the Japanese government when Hirono was evacuated.
