A recent Rand Corporation study, Mapping the Gaps, finds the health industry has poor access to the latest mapping and geographic information system (GIS) technologies and suggests GIS could be very helpful is ensuring medical care is available in the US. According to the study, the gap in analysis for health services meeting population needs are due to lack of data, lack of funding, or lack of technological skills for analyzing GIS maps.
