Taiwan Starting New Food-Tracking System

A food safety crisis surfaced late last month led to the recall of more than 9,000 products when Taiwan’s Department of Health discovered six types of chemicals known as plasticizers, widely used to soften plastic containers had been added to the drinks, jams, and prescription drugs.

Following the food safety crisis, the Taiwan Government will introduce a new  mandatory food-tracking system in hopes to restore its reputation as one of the world’s reliable exporters. According to Minister of Economic Affairs Yen-Shiang, the new system would be put in place within three months.
