Memorial Day – Map the Fallen in Google Earth

Check out this new casualty map called Map of the Fallen. It was created by Sean Askay, working for the Google Earth Outreach team. In November of 2005, Sean posted the first version of a map showing US and Coalition soldiers who died in the Iraq and Afghanistan conflicts.  Afterward, he worked with other members of the Google Earth Community to refine the map over time, focusing on providing a memorial to these fallen soldiers through mapping. It honors the more than 5,700 American and Coalition servicemen and women that have lost their lives in the war in Iraq and Afghanistan.  The map “connect[s] you with each of their stories—you can see photos, learn about how they died, visit memorial websites with comments from friends and families, and explore the places they called home and where they died.”

View the map here (Google Earth 5 required) which appears on his Map the Fallen blog.
