Data.gov updated to Next Generation

A new site called Data.gov Next Generation is featured in two videos (3 minute, 10 minute). The White House added new features to Data.gov in an effort to transform the site from a data repository to a cloud-based platform for creating new applications and services.

“Next Generation” datasets are interactive datasets you can search, filter, and explore on the fly, right through your web browser! You can also create charts and maps, and APIs are available for developers. Click on the name of a dataset to start interacting with it. By accessing these datasets, you agree to the Data Policy.

Before there was concerns about shutting Data.gov down (APB coverage). Alex Howard at O’Reilly says this new version means Data.gov is here to stay.
