Norway supports seismic mapping in Myanmar

Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs is supporting mapping of seismic activity in Myanmar. Following an earthquake of magnitude 7.0 and 10 km depth struck close to Thai border in Myanmar on March 24, Norway is financing a project, implemented by the Asian Disaster Preparedness Centre (ADPC) in Bangkok to map the risk of earthquakes in Myanmar.

Led by Professor Kuvet Atakan at the University of Bergen, Norway, the initiative for this mapping project falls under the framework agreement between the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and ADPC on emergency preparedness initiatives in Asia.
