Canada launches pilot project for open data

The Government of Canada launched its pilot project for an Open Data Portal (data.gc.ca). The portal aims to enable citizens, researchers, private sector and non-government organisations to access government data free of charge. The portal will make large amounts of data accessible through a single window where application developers can reuse and leverage data for commercial or research purposes to benefit all Canadians in a variety of ways, according to Stockwell Day, President of the Treasury Board and Minister for the Asia-Pacific Gateway.
