Canada launches pilot project for open data

The Government of Canada launched its pilot project for an Open Data Portal ( The portal aims to enable citizens, researchers, private sector and non-government organisations to access government data free of charge. The portal will make large amounts of data accessible through a single window where application developers can reuse and leverage data for commercial or research purposes to benefit all Canadians in a variety of ways, according to Stockwell Day, President of the Treasury Board and Minister for the Asia-Pacific Gateway.
