Survey of India (SOI) celebrated National Science Day with a theme of ‘Chemistry in our lives’. “The campus is usually a restricted area. But, this is the only day of the year when we declare it as an ‘open day’, and people from all over the city can visit the campus and have a look around,” said Dr B Nagarajan, additional surveyor general, Indian Institute of Surveying and Mapping.
The celebration was inaugurated by Dr Y J Bhaskar Rao, acting director, National Geophysical Research Institute (NGRI), Hyderabad. The exhibition, as part of the celebration, included demonstration of Digital Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing Techniques, Digital Mapping and GIS Applications, Map Printing Systems, among others. About the exhibition, Dr B Nagarajan, said, “Students were very happy and highly inquisitive about the equipments at display. We allowed little scientists to operate the equipment so that they get a vivid idea and clarity in subject. The students also learn the procedure of surveying and mapping.”
