Haiti Braces for Hurricane as Tropical Storm Tomas Strengthens

Tropical Storm Tomas strengthened over the Caribbean Sea as Haiti is bracing for a hurricane to hit at the end the week. Its forecast to reach southern Haiti with winds at least 74mph on Nov.5th or 6th.

Haiti is already reeling from a cholera outbreak and a 7.0 magnitude earthquake. Now the Haiti’s government, the United Nations, and humanitarian agencies are working on a response based on the projection that the storm may affect 500,000 people, according to the UN’s Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs.

As of November 1st, there is a map created by the National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) showing the projection and current affects of the tropical storm.
