Developed by GeoDecisions, an information technology company specializing in geospatial solutions, in conjunction with the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, the Environmental Public Health Tracking Portal allows users to access information and data regarding New York City’s health and environmental conditions.
With its information, the portal provides multiple functions including neighborhood comparisons and trends within the city. One function allows citizens to view and relate the relationship between childhood asthma hospitalizations and second-hand cigarette smoke in the home. In addition, citizens are also able to view the number of days which air quality advisories were issued for a specific areas or populations.
Led by a national initiative from the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the portal is available on the NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene website. Other participating states and cities can be found on the CDC website.
